Honoring the Healer | Nzingah Oniwosan

What is your name & location?

Nzingah Oniwosan I am based in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

How do you heal (or help heal) people?

My healing work takes on many forms. My main modality for healing is through the arts. I work as a teaching artist work with at risk youth to build confidence, esteem, as well as help address mental health concerns. I also work intensively with adults and children with disabilities to help them reach milestones. I am a multidisciplinary artist so I use different art forms in different environments; such as painting, music, theater, and dance. I also do a lot of healing work in the area of holistic health. I am holistic health consultant, yoga teacher, and plant-based chef. The work is one that helps individuals reconnect their mind, body, and spirit.

What type of benefits does your method of healing provide?

A lot of the work helps with mental health, by restoring sense of self, releasing stress, building confidence, and redirect anxiety brought on by trauma. Many clients I have worked with have experienced weight loss, reversal of many health conditions such as hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, and infertility to name a few. Others have been able to keep autoimmune disorders in remission as well as minimize or eliminate the effects of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), Sickle Cell Anemia, Hyperthyroidism, and Fibroids. Overall everyone no matter where they are have experienced increased energy and more positive outlook on life.

When did you realize that you wanted to heal people/why did you start?

I always intuitively knew I wanted to be healer. I started praying everyday at the age of three to become and doctor and was on that route until I made a shift towards holistic health. It has been a calling. I come from a family of natural healers. My father, grandmothers, great-grandmother and father are all healers.

Why is what you do so important?

It is important because we have an unspoken mental health crisis. If we understand on a deeper level our physical health is connected to mental and spiritual health. In aryuvedic medicine the describe toxins blockage as “amas.” Amas can be toxins built up in our physical body or undigested emotions; events that happened in our life that we have not processed properly or gotten over. This energetic block can cause a physical blockage or pain in our body. So much of our physical illness is directly connected to blockages we have mentally and spiritually. Tied into all that I do is this understanding and how can we begin to heal our minds and spirit so we can thrive in this world. We are hurting in so many ways and we have to find ways to release our pain. Find reasons to find our smiles again. To love ourselves like never before for.

What is your inspiration to continue doing what you are doing? What is the fuel that keeps you going?

My personal journey and the current one of my parents are the fuel for what I do. I was diagnosed between the ages of 12-14 with a pituitary tumor and a rare autoimmune disorder called scleroderma. Because of the location of the tumor (near optic nerve) it was best not to remove it between it and the scleroderma it meant I had tons of physicians I saw on regular basis. I was told I would have to be on medication for the rest of my life in order to thrive. My sophomore year in college I decided to take my health in my own hands. The work that I do is the work that I have done for myself. Most recently both my parents have had strokes that have caused significant impairments it was ground shaking for me to see them so vulnerable. It fueled my passion to provide people with ways to live in such a way so they could avoid what happened to both my parents.

How does it make you feel when you are healing people?

I feel like I am stepping into my destiny. I honestly I feel my job is not to be a healer in that someone becomes dependent on me but instead to help everyone find the healer within themselves. When I witness someone step into their power there are no words to describe what I feel.

What are your visions &/or goals?

My vision is to have healing center/village where healers of all modalities from all over the world can do their transformative work and create something much bigger than the work they do as individuals.

Tell us a fun fact about what it is that you do, or something people may not know.

I have worked with well over 75,000 people over the past 12 years inspiring, healing, and transforming.

In one sentence, what is your message to the world?

I will use my favorite quote: Are you making decisions that are leading you towards your miracles or ones that keep you in your madness?
