What is your name and location?
Julia Alvarez Philadelphia PA
How do you heal yourself? What is your favorite form of self-therapy?
I heal through energy work, movement, meditation, and herbal medicine. I use a lot of visualization in my meditation practice and work with crystals. My favorite form of self-therapy is intuitive yoga which is a slow flow to release and redirect energy around for healing.
When/what was the catalyst that made you start?
A couple years ago I woke up one morning with my vision in my right eye totally gone due to an infected corneal ulcer. I was traveling and living in a small beach town in Ghana and none of the doctors had seen my condition before. It was then when I totally had to lean in and trust my own healing ability. I was just getting into energy work at the time and this was a big test for me. After that, my life completely changed and my path as a teacher and healer was forged.
How has this form of healing helped you?
Healing has uncovered my true self. I didn’t know who I was before and was very lost. This caused me to hurt myself and hurt others. Healing has forced me to get to the deep rooted pain and suffering and bring it all up so it can be cleared. I am working on implementing new high vibrational ways of being. I think we always will be! Constantly evolving.
What does your process look like? (Please share what you feel comfortable sharing)
I spend time a lot of time in nature. Most of the inspiration and wisdom I receive comes from listening to the natural life around me and grounding into Mother Earth. It changes from day to day but what always stays true is calling in some kind of stillness so I can connect to the source.
How does it make you feel when you are healing yourself?
When I look at my pain or illness with acceptance, I begin to heal and I feel empowered. I have to get real with myself and it’s not easy, it’s really hard work. The self-love and self-knowledge I cultivate during my healing process gives me strength.
Why is what you do so important? Why is this form of self-helping important to you?
I believe we all carry the power to heal, and I call it intuitive healing because that’s what it is. We already know the answers and we already know what we need. We just need to trust ourselves! When we lean into our intuition and our feelings, we can be guided to our most potent medicine.
What is your inspiration to continue doing what you are doing? What is the fuel that keeps you going?
I’m inspired by the healing, intuitive power of the feminine every day. I feel as if there is an uprising is feminine power and we are being called to heal the world. I love teaching about the power our menstrual cycle. The response I keep getting from speaking about this has been incredible. I notice the conversation and the women flourish when bringing this topic to light. There has been so much programmed shame and misinformation spread about our cycle so there is a lot of healing work to be done. Opening up the discussion is the first step.
What are your visions &/or goals?
I love creating spaces for people to go deep. I am currently working on retreats for those who want to tune in and get in touch with nature’s energy. I have two retreats in the works, one camping retreat outside Philly in October, and one this winter in Miami. I want to keep doing women’s healing work for my whole life.
Tell us a fun fact about your form of healing, what it is that you do, or something people may not know.
I sing all the time! It is a huge part of my spiritual practice. The words flow and I feel like I’m at my highest communion with my angels, and my guides. It is personal and just for me, but maybe one day I’ll share.
In one sentence, what is your message to the world?
Once we tap into our innate power and realize the divinity within, we can begin heal ourselves and that loving healing vibration cannot help but overflow.
Is there is anything else that you would like to share about yourself or what your form of self-healing?
Right now I am most focused on working with lunar energy and teaching women the connection of your menstrual cycle and the moon. There is so much power in living truthfully to yourself and as women our truth is living a cyclical life.
